Terms of Service
Last updated: August 19, 2026
1. Acceptance of these terms
Discord Chess is a Discord bot and companion website (discordchess.com) for playing chess inside Discord servers - the "Service". By adding the bot to a server, using its commands, or using this website, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. The Service
The Service lets Discord users play chess games in chat and in the browser, play against a computer opponent, run matches between servers, review finished games with an engine, and collect cosmetic piece sets. Features may be added, changed, limited, or removed at any time without notice.
3. Eligibility and acceptable use
You must comply with Discord's own Terms of Service and Community Guidelines, including Discord's minimum age requirements, to use the Service. You agree not to:
- abuse, overload, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or its infrastructure;
- use automation, exploits, or bugs to manipulate games, match records, or the material economy;
- use the Service to harass others or to violate any applicable law.
4. Game data
To operate, the Service stores the data the games need: Discord user, server, channel, and message identifiers; moves, match history, and results; settings such as challenge opt-ins and subscriptions; and cosmetic inventory and material balances. Game links served by this website are private, capability-style URLs - anyone you share one with can act on your side of that game.
Data is retained to keep match history and records working. The privacy policy describes collection and handling in detail. If you want data connected to your server or account removed, contact the operator (section 9).
5. Virtual items
"Material", piece sets, and any other in-bot items are cosmetic virtual features with no monetary value. They cannot be bought, sold, or exchanged for real currency, are not your property, and may be adjusted, reset, or removed at any time.
6. Premium subscriptions
Optional Premium features (unlimited matches and analysis, cross-server play, and web links) are sold as Discord premium app subscriptions. Purchases, billing, renewals, cancellations, and refunds are handled entirely by Discord under Discord's terms and payment policies - manage or cancel the subscription in your Discord settings. Premium unlocks apply while the entitlement is active and end when it lapses; the operator does not process payments and cannot issue refunds.
7. Availability, warranty, and liability
The Service is a hobby project provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Games, records, and balances may be lost. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service.
8. Termination
The operator may suspend or block any user or server from the Service at any time, particularly for violating these terms. You may stop using the Service at any time by removing the bot from your server.
9. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated from time to time. The "last updated" date above reflects the current version, and continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
10. Contact
Questions about these terms, or data removal requests, can be directed to the operator via GitHub: @malmgrens4.
